White House National Security Communications Advisor Kirby evaluated the main topics on the agenda in a press briefing he held via teleconference. In his assessment of the elections in Venezuela, Kirby congratulated the people for going to the polls and expressing their political preferences, and emphasized that they were “concerned” about the election results.

“We have seen the statements from Venezuelan officials election and, frankly, we have serious concerns that the results that have been announced do not reflect the will and the votes of the Venezuelan people,” Kirby said.

‘We Will Act Accordingly’

Kirby said they want to make sure every vote is counted accurately and are waiting for independent observers to report on the election without delay, adding that they are also waiting for election officials to release all the details about the results.

Kirby stated that they have not yet made a judgment on the election results, and said, “Until then (when all the details are announced), we will not make a judgment. We and the international community are monitoring the developments, and we will act accordingly.”
