Kyrgyz President Japarov Outraged by Nephew’s Flashy Marriage Proposal

Kyrgyz President Japarov is outraged after Aftandil Sabyrbekov used a government helicopter to propose his beauty queen niece Lazzat Nurgozhoeva. Video of the lavish proposal shows the young couple dressed in white flying to a mountainside location on a Kyrgyz Emergency Situations Ministry helicopter, landing to applause before walking along a path and meeting in front of a giant heart made of flowers, where the proposal is made to the accompaniment of fireworks.

The video, which quickly went viral, infuriated Caparov. In an interview with local media, the president said that he had publicly apologized for his niece, and that Sabyrbekov only wanted to marry her to gain political support and hide his illegal activities. When Sabyrbekov did not publicly apologize, Caparov lost his patience, and two weeks later he ordered the arrest of his nephew’s fiancée. According to local media, Sabyrbekov was arrested for drug-related crimes.

It was reported that 22 people lost their lives and 4,551 houses were damaged in Kyrgyzstan due to floods in the last 6 months. Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov provided information on the effects of floods in the country. Noting that 80 floods occurred throughout Kyrgyzstan in the first half of this year, Mambetov stated that the material damage as a result of the floods was 13 million dollars.

Mambetov stated that despite the 56 warning notices issued by the Ministry since the beginning of the year, flood disasters have increased. Noting that 3,888 families live in the regions where evacuation and evacuation decisions have been made in the country, Mambetov noted that these families have not migrated despite the support to be provided by the state.
