Merve İzmirlioğlu, in her statement to the press at the Istanbul Courthouse, stated that they encountered a discriminatory and outdated practice at the Turkish Sports Writers Association (TSYD) outdoor pool in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, on August 29. Mehmet İzmirlioğlu, recalling his experience of going to TSYD’s pool with his wife and children, said:
