Statement by Lazzarini on UNRWA Schools in Gaza
In a statement he made on the social media platform X, Lazzarini provided information about the UNRWA schools that have been targeted in Gaza since October 7, 2023. Pointing to the attacks carried out by Israel on four schools where Palestinians were displaced in the last four days took refuge, Lazzarini said, “The blatant disregard of international humanitarian law cannot be the new normal.”
Lazzarini said that two-thirds of UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip have been hit since the Israeli attacks began, some have been blown up and some have been severely damaged. Most of these Palestinians have been displaced multiple times due to Israeli forced migration, while some have taken refugee in nearby schools to avoid leaving their areas.
The Israeli army’s attacks in Gaza, which have continued since October 7, have frequently targeted schools and camps where displaced Palestinians take refuge.
