The latest statement by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that $100 million worth of resources from the UN’s Central Emergency Fund (CERF) will be directed to countries experiencing crises in different parts of the world. This new fund is expected to provide significant support to communities struggling with current humanitarian crises.

The statement said that more than a third of the funds provided will be transferred to Yemen ($20 million) and Ethiopia ($15 million), which are struggling with hunger, displacement, diseases and the negative effects of climate disasters. It was also announced that $12 million will be sent to Myanmar, $11 million to Mali, $10 million to Burkina Faso, $9 million to Haiti, $7 million to Cameroon, $7 million to Mozambique, $5 million to Burundi and $4 million to Malawi, which are struggling with climate change and other health problems.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Joyce Musya“Many humanitarian emergencies in various parts of the world are preventing aid agencies from reaching people in need of life-saving assistance due to lack of funding. This is truly heartbreaking,” Msuya said in his assessment. He stressed that CERF is used as a last resort to prevent worst-case scenarios and save lives when other humanitarian funding is insufficient.
