Typhoon Ampil, which is expected to affect various parts of Japan, especially the Kanto and Tohoku regions, has put authorities on alert. With the typhoon approaching, preparations have accelerated among the public and various sectors.

Following the heavy rain and storm warning issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), at least 497 flightscancelled. Airlines have informed passengers that further flights may be canceled if weather conditions worsen.

Rail operator Central Japan Railway announced that services on the Tohoku, Joetsu, Hokuriku and Yamagata bullet train lines will be partially suspended tomorrow. In addition, services between Nagoya and Tokyo stations on the Tokaido bullet train line will be suspended tomorrow as a precaution. Disruptions are also expected on many local train lines across the country.

Authorities Warn of Floods and Landslides

Typhoon Ampil was reportedly moving northward from Hachijo Island, 287 kilometers south of Tokyo, as of noon today. The JMA warned that heavy rain and winds would be expected in the Kanto and Tohoku regions, as well as the Izu Islands. Authorities warned that if the typhoon makes landfall, wind speeds could reach levels that could topple vehicles and power poles.
