Türkiye-Greece Bridge Project to Strengthen Transportation Infrastructure
Minister of Transport Ahmet Uraloğlu made important statements regarding the project carried out to strengthen the transportation infrastructure between Turkey and Greece. It was stated that a new land border crossing bridge will be built in the Ipsala-Kipi border crossing area. The project, which started with the memorandum of understanding signed in Athens on January 22, 2004, aims to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Ahmet Uraloğlu stated that Greece has undertaken the bridge project and that the work is expected to be completed this year. The project was approved at the meeting held in Thessaloniki on April 17, 2024, and it was stated that preparations for the construction tender will begin. It was emphasized that when the project is completed, the 841-meter-long and 4-lane bridge will facilitate transportation and increase trade between Turkey and Greece.
It was also stated that the bridge would be an important connection point in the region and that it would strengthen Turkey’s functional connection to European corridors. It was announced that the new bridge to be built over the Meriç River was designed as a two-way and 4-lane bridge to accommodate increasing traffic.
