The Anatolian 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, which examined the indictment prepared against 16 suspects including Dilan Polat, her husband Engin Polat, and her siblings Can and Sıla Doğu within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, decided that the case should be heard in the high criminal court and returned the file to the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
History of the incident:In operations carried out in 6 provinces centered in Istanbul on November 1, 2023, 24 suspects, including Dilan Polat and her husband Engin Polat, were detained. Digital materials and ledgers were seized in searches conducted at their companies as part of the investigation, and a preliminary investigation report by MASAK determined that the suspects had transferred a high amount of 200 million liras to family companies by issuing fake invoices.
After determining the identities of the suspects, Istanbul Financial Crimes Department teams launched simultaneous operations at 43 addresses. As a result of the operations, it was revealed that the company belonging to Dilan and Engin Polat had given the naming rights to another company in Ankara and that millions of liras were being attempted to be transferred to personal accounts in this way.
Among the suspects were those who were arrested and those who were released under judicial control. The judgement also ruled to appoint trustees to 27 companies. The indictment requested that the companies and their assets be confiscated and transferred to the public.
The indictment prepared by the public prosecutor’s office requested that the suspects be punished for the crimes of “laundering assets originating from crime”, “illegal betting”, “establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime” and “being a member of an organization established for the purpose of committing a crime”. After the indictment was approved by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, it was sent to the Anatolian 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.
