Farmer Alpaslan Sarıboğa, who lives in the Tutak district of Ağrı, established an orchard on a 3-decare area with the support of the Tutak District Governorship’s “Fruit Cultivation and Development Project” in 2012. Sarıboğa, who grows many products such as apples, peaches, walnuts, cherries, plums, grapes and quinces in his orchard, produces a total of approximately 5 tons of products per season and sells them to greengrocers, markets and customers in the city.

Stating that the yield has increased this year due to the rainy spring months, Sarıboğa said that the cherry trees among the 200 trees in the orchard bear fruit “like bunches of grapes.”

Sarıboğa, who said that he has been producing fruit in the village for about 12 years, stated that he established the orchard with seedlings provided by the state and continued production. Sarıboğa stated that there are 15 cherry trees, 5 types of apple trees, 4 types of pear trees, 4 types of plum trees, grape, peach and apricot trees in the orchard.

Sarıboğa, who stated that he expects a good yield of fruits this year, said that the cherry harvest has started and that they expect close to 1.5 tons of cherries this year. Sarıboğa, who stated that they will harvest pears, apples, plums, peaches and walnuts throughout the summer, emphasized that the fruits are organic and that their products are sold out quickly due to the abundance of orders.

Sarıboğa said, “Our fruits are organic and since there are too many orders, we do not have enough products. We have nearly 200 fruit trees. Hopefully, we will expand this business even further.”
