Muğla Municipality Struggles with the Citrus Long-Antennipped Beetle

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality took action quickly upon the detection of the Citrus Long-Antenstened Beetle. This harmful insect, which was first seen in Turkey in 2014, appeared in different provinces by 2020. The Citrus Long-Antensted Beetle, seen on plane trees in Köyceğiz district of Muğla, can damage many tree species such as maple, horse chestnut and alder .

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, which attended the meeting organized by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, acts in cooperation with the district agricultural directorates and other relevant institutions. Municipal teams took the first steps in combating the insect by spraying infected plane trees and monitoring the process.

Biologist Pınar Gitmez from the Department of Agricultural Services said in her statement on the subject, “We are meticulously carrying out the spraying and follow-up work to minimize the damage caused by the Citrus Long-Antenstened Beetle to plane trees. We ask our citizens “To inform the relevant teams when they see this harmful insect,” he said.

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, with its sensitivity about environmental and nature protection, plays an active role in preventing the spread of the Citrus Long-Antensted Beetle and preserving the natural balance.
