According to Bangladesh’s official news agency BSS, the Nobel Peace Prize winner Prof. Muhammad Yunuswith the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo GrandiA phone conversation took place between them. During this meeting, Grandi congratulated Yunus on his new role in the interim government.

Grandi, on the other hand, asked Yunus to attend the event to be held in New York. UN General AssemblyHe asked him to attend a meeting regarding Rohingya Muslims. It was also shared that Grandi plans to visit Bangladesh in October. In his statement on social media platform “We will discuss it in more detail. I assured Yunus of UNHCR’s full support.” he said

Ethnic cleansing against Rohingya Muslims started with the conflicts that broke out between Buddhists and Muslims in Myanmar’s Rakhine state in 2012. As a result of these events, thousands of people, mostly Muslims, lost their lives and hundreds of houses and workplaces were set on fire .

The Myanmar army and Buddhist nationalists launched mass acts of violence on August 25, 2017, using the simultaneous attacks on border posts in Rakhine as an excuse. According to the United Nations, the number of people who fled oppression and persecution in Rakhine and took refugee in Bangladesh after August 2017 900 thousandhas passed. International human rights organizations and the UN describe this violence against Rohingya Muslims as “ethnic cleansing” or “genocide”.
