Heavy Rainfall Hits Producers in Bafra

Bafra'da Aşırı Yağışlar Üreticiyi Vurdu

The Bafra district of Samsun is known as one of the largest fruit and vegetable production centers in Turkey. However, heavy rainfall last Friday evening flooded the Bafra Plain, causing important crops such as watermelons, melons and peppers to rot and disappear in the fields. Right in the middle of the fruit and vegetable season, this disaster caused great losses to Bafra producers.

4 Inspection of Production Centers

AK Party Samsun Deputy Orhan Kırcalı, AK Party Bafra District Chairman İbrahim Semiz and Mayor Hamit Kılıç went to the region and met with local producers. Kırcalı, Semiz and Kılıç held meetings with farmers in Karıncak, Yeşilyazı, Koşu and Fener Neighborhoods and examined the damaged agricultural areas on site.

Sudden Downpours Became a Nightmare

During the visit of MP Orhan Kırcalı, the producers voiced their complaints by saying, “Sudden downpours have truly become a nightmare. We have once again become victims of these excessive rains. We cannot fight against floods. Sudden rains have become more frequent due to “global warming. Our region receives the rain that should fall in 3 days in 1 or 2 hours. We have to take new and rational precautions against this situation.”

‘Drain Channels Must Be Cleaned’

Emphasizing that the drainage and discharge channels are not cleaned sufficiently and on time, the producers said, “The main channel to which the discharge channels are connected is at the bottom of the Bird Paradise. Although the pumps work, they consume a lot of energy “, so there are power cuts during heavy rainfall. Thus, the channels fill up and floods occur with heavy rainfall. New systems should be developed to ensure that the discharge channels flow into the sea in the form of a dam.”

‘There is no longer any strength left to endure’

Producers from Bafra said, “We requested new machines for our plain from our MPs. Providing these machines is of vital importance. All drainage channels need to be cleaned by working together with the State Hydraulic Works (DSI). We are tired of living a nightmare with every heavy rain. It is a pity for tens of thousands of tons of products, millions of liras of loss and so much labor.”

Kırcalı: ‘We Stand by the Producer’

Making a statement on the subject, MP Orhan Kırcalı said, “We visited our lowland neighborhoods with fertile soil that were affected by the heavy rainfall. We examined the areas affected by the heavy rainfall on site with our mukhtars and fellow townspeople. We will continue “to stand by our farmers and producers with the resources of our governorship’s relevant units and our metropolitan and district municipalities.”
