Foreign Population Data and the Situation in Istanbul Districts
According to the information provided by the Minister of Interior at the last press conference, the number of foreigners with the right to legally stay in Turkey has been determined as 4 million 474 thousand. This includes 3 million 114 thousand Syrians under temporary protection. In Istanbul, this number has been announced as 1 million 92 thousand. However, according to the Istanbul Immigration Administration data, since more than 20 percent of the population resides in only 10 districts, the total number of foreigners has reached 1 million 341 thousand. According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality estimates, this number could be around 2.5 million.
