General Election Results According to NFP Announcement
The NFP said in a written statement that the results of the first and second rounds of the French general elections revealed the “failure” of Macron’s wing. The statement said that the French prevented the victory of the far-right by placing the New Popular Front and its programme first in the election. It was emphasized that although the left alliance did not have an absolute majority in parliament, the election results imposed a great responsibility. The statement called on Macron to refrain from any attempt to ignore the country’s institutions.
France’s Decision to Hold Early Elections
Following the victory of the far-right National Rally (RN) party, which has increased its votes in the last three elections in France, in the EP elections, President Macron decided to dissolve the parliament and call early elections. In the last general elections in the country, it was notable that leftist parties came together under the New Popular Front and acted together against the far-right. According to official figures, in the early general elections, the New Popular Front won 178 seats, while Macron’s alliance won 163 seats, and the far-right RN alliance won 143 seats.
Macron Requests Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to Submit His Resignation
After the left-wing alliance came out on top in the second round of early general elections, Macron asked Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who submitted his resignation on July 8, to continue in his post “for now.”
