Joint Statement Call for Peace
In a joint statement issued by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and UK Labor Party leader Keir Starmer, it was stated that they welcomed and supported the call of the mediating countries, the United States, Egypt and Qatar, to start negotiations between Israel and Hamas on a prisoner swap and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The statement stressed that it was agreed that “there can be no further delay” in starting negotiations. “We are working with all parties to prevent escalation of tension. We will spare no effort to reduce tension and find a path to stability,” it said.
The joint statement emphasized that the conflicts must end immediately and the prisoners must be released, and stated that “the people of Gaza need urgent and unlimited aid delivery and distribution.”
‘No Country Will Gain from Escalating Tensions in the Middle East’
Concerns about the rising tension in the region were emphasized and the need to reduce tension and ensure regional stability was emphasized. The statement included the following statements:
- “In this context, we particularly call on Iran and its allies to refrain from attacks that would further escalate regional tensions and jeopardize the opportunity for a ceasefire and the release of hostages.”
- “They will bear responsibility for any actions that jeopardize this opportunity for peace and stability.”
- “No country or nation will benefit from further escalation of tensions in the Middle East.”
In a joint statement released yesterday, the US, Egypt and Qatar called on Israel and Hamas to resume negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and a prisoner swap on August 15 in Cairo or Doha.
