The Gaza Strip is a region where approximately 2.3 million people live, and forced migration has become an integral part of Palestinian life. Millions of Palestinians have been forced to migrate many times due to attacks by the Israeli army.
Operation Al Burayj and Migration
The Israeli army announced that it would launch an operation in the Ash-Shehada and Al-Burayc regions in the city center of Gaza. Following this announcement, thousands of Palestinians began to leave the area in order to avoid possible attacks. Thousands of Gazans, mostly women and children, are trying to leave the area on foot. Unable to find a vehicle, the migrants set out on the road with the few belongings they could take with them.
Israel’s Call and Reactions
Israeli Army Spokesperson Avichay Adraee announced on social media that an operation would be carried out in “safe” areas in Gaza, warning residents to evacuate. Adraee, who wanted Palestinians to go to Al-Mawasi, stated that they would launch an attack by narrowing down the area previously described as “safe”.
Israeli Bombardment and Casualties
On July 13, the Israeli army carried out a heavy bombardment with warplanes on the area of Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip. In this bombardment, 90 Palestinians, half of whom were women and children, lost their lives. The story of Palestinian displacement is an ongoing trauma and a painful reality.
