Senator Merkley, in a post on X, said, “I will not attend Netanyahu’s speech.” Merkley stated, “Following Hamas’ horrific attack, Netanyahu’s war strategy has killed over 12,000 women and children and caused widespread starvation. (Netanyahu) has put his political presence ahead of the release of the hostages. He should not have spoken in Congress.”
In the US, a significant number of members of the Senate and House of Representatives from the Democratic Party are expected to boycott Netanyahu’s speech to the US Congress tomorrow. When Netanyahu addressed the US Congress in March 2015 under former US President Barack Obama, around 60 Democrats did not attend. It is reported that more Democrats will not attend the Israeli Prime Minister’s planned speech to the US Congress tomorrow. Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and independent Senator Bernie Sanders are among those who have announced that they will not attend Netanyahu’s speech.
