Cukurova International Airport Opens a New Era in Turkey’s Aviation

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, emphasizing that Çukurova International Airport is one of Turkey’s most important aviation investments, stated that the airport will be an important center due to its regional nature. He announced that the airport will serve all of Çukurova, especially Adana and Mersin, and will be opened by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on August 10.

A Project That Attracts Attention with Its Strategic Location

Minister Uraloğlu emphasized Turkey’s strategic location and stated that Çukurova International Airport is located at the center of 67 countries where 1.4 billion people live with a 4-hour flight time. Stating that they plan to increase the number of active airports to 61 within the scope of the 2053 targets, Uraloğlu stated that Çukurova Airport is an important step in this direction.

Attracts Attention with Its Large Capacity

Minister Uraloğlu, who stated that Çukurova Airport will contribute to the aviation sector of the region and the country with its 8 million passenger capacity, announced that the runway was built to CAT-II standards and that even the widest-bodied aircraft can land and take off. In addition, the airport has a 217 thousand square meter apron with a capacity of 40 aircraft, a 62 thousand square meter cargo apron with a capacity of 4 aircraft and a 56 thousand square meter general aviation apron with a capacity of 34 aircraft.

Will Contribute to Economy and Employment

Uraloğlu stated that Çukurova Airport requires an investment of approximately 244.5 million euros with the build-operate-transfer model and that they will receive a rental fee of 297 million 100 thousand euros from this investment within 25 years. Emphasizing that the airport will create employment for 3 thousand people directly and indirectly in the region and throughout the country, Uraloğlu stated that it will make a great contribution to the economy, trade and tourism of the surrounding provinces, especially Mersin and Adana.

Uraloğlu stated that with the opening of Çukurova Airport, the region’s role in international trade will be further strengthened, and that air transportation helps supply chains operate uninterruptedly by ensuring timely delivery of urgent and critical materials. He stated that the airport will increase the export potential of businesses in the region by facilitating their integration into global supply chains and will enable businesses in the region to open up to wider markets.
