Ceyhan Municipality organized a commemoration program on the 26th anniversary of the June 27, 1998 earthquake. On the 26th anniversary of the earthquake that occurred on June 27, 1988, those who lost their lives were commemorated with a ceremony held in front of the earthquake monument. At the commemoration event, attention was also drawn to earthquake precautions.
Making a statement on behalf of the group, Hıdır Çak stated that they were honored to commemorate with respect the 145 citizens who lost their lives in the Ceyhan earthquake. Çak also said: “Today, we organized it together as the chamber of construction, geophysics, geological engineers and architects, which are the professional disciplines that work from ground properties to architectural and reinforced concrete design, from project planning to the construction phase, and Ceyhan Municipality, which is involved in their monitoring and control.”
The 6.3 magnitude Adana-Ceyhan Earthquake that occurred on June 27, 1998 caused the deaths of 145 people, the injuries of 1,500 people and the loss of thousands of people. Following the earthquake, the Adana Branches of the Chambers affiliated with TMMOB conducted an investigation in Ceyhan and volunteered to perform preliminary damage assessments. It was stated that the damage was due to the lack of engineering services for the buildings and the inadequacy of the laws and regulations at the time.
It has been emphasized that our country is at risk of earthquake and that it is of great importance to strengthen the structures and build them in accordance with earthquake regulations. Citizens lost in the Ceyhan and Kahramanmaraş earthquakes were once again commemorated with respect.
Following the press statement, the commemoration program ended with flowers being laid at the earthquake monument.
