In the incident that took place yesterday morning in Kastamonu, upon receiving a tip that Ismail Bayam (32), who was determined to be a drug addict and a prison escapee, was in the house where his family lived, teams from the Kastamonu Provincial Police Department Narcotics Crimes Branch took action. The teams conducted an operation at the address. However, during the operation, police officers Arif Ay and Ahmet Şahan were attacked with a pump-action shotgun by Ismail Bayam, who opened fire on them. As a result of this attack, both police officers were injured. Later, Bayam locked himself in the house and took his mother SB (52) hostage.
After a tense wait of approximately 4 hours at the scene, the Special Operations Police stepped in and conducted an operation on the house. In the operation, the attacker was neutralized and killed. The mother SB, who was taken hostage, was successfully rescued.
He Was Sent Off to His Hometown with a Ceremony
A ceremony was held in the garden of the Kastamonu Provincial Police Department for Martyr Police Officer Ahmet Şahan, who was married and had 2 children. Kastamonu Governor Meftun Dallı, AK Party Kastamonu Deputies Fatma Serap Ekmekci and Halil Uluay, Provincial Police Chief Kayhan Ay, military personnel, city protocol, the martyr’s family and colleagues and hundreds of citizens attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, Provincial Police Chief Kayhan Ay said, “Yesterday at around 09:00, police officer Ahmet Şahan on duty at the Narcotics Crimes Department was injured as a result of gunfire opened by a suspect while on duty and despite all interventions at the ceremony.” hospital he was taken to, he could not be saved and became a martyr. The martyr’s family and comrades-in-arms who attended the ceremony could not hold back their tears. Police Officer Arif Ay, who was shot in the shoulder in the same incident, hugged his colleague’s coffin and shed tears of deep sorrow.
After the ceremony, the martyr’s body was sent to his hometown Nevşehir with prayers. Martyr Police Officer Ahmet Şahan, who served in the Kastamonu Provincial Police Department for 5 years and was married with 2 children, will be buried in the Abdi village of the Kozaklı district of Nevşehir.
