Making his first defense at the hearing, Halil Yıldız, the owner of the building inspection company, denied the accusations and claimed that the core samples were not taken in accordance with the regulations. Yıldız said, “I demand that the experts who took the core samples be heard at the hearing. Because the cores were not taken in accordance with the expert witness guide. I want my release because our control reports are approved by the municipalities.”
Contractor: It’s of no use being arrested
The site’s contractor, Hasan Çam, also denied the accusations and requested his release. Stating that he didn’t know anything about construction, Çam said, “I only financed the building. My arrest is of no use to anyone, I should be on the job. Being arrested for 17 months has increased my victimization.”
Other Defenders
The other defendants also denied the charges and repeated their previous defenses.
‘Public Personnel Should Be Tried Immediately’
Tuba Erdemoğlu, who lost her relatives in the collapsed apartment building, stated that they want justice to be served and said, “Not a single public personnel has been tried in the Sait Bey Site case. We want the permissions from the Ministry of Interior to be issued quickly and for the public personnel to be included in the file. We want justice to be served.”
