Initial Detection and Alarm
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality and Provincial Directorate of Agriculture raised the alarm about the Citrus Long-Antensted Beetle (Anoplophora chinensis), which was detected for the first time in Muğla. This harmful insect, which was first seen in Turkey in 2014 and was subsequently detected in Antalya, Bartın, Trabzon and Zonguldak until 2020, was seen on plane trees in Muğla’s Köyceğiz district in mid-May.
Struggle Plan Created
It is known that the Citrus Long-Antensted Beetle can destroy many tree species such as Maple, Horse Chestnut and Alder. The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry has started to work in cooperation with relevant institutions by creating a plan for insect control and prevention. In this context, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality intervened in infected trees and carried out disinfection operations.
Disinfestation and Follow-up Studies
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Agricultural Services Department teams took quick action against the Citrus Long-Antenstened Beetle detected in Köyceğiz district. The process of spraying and monitoring infected trees continues successfully. Citizens were also informed to be sensitive on this issue and called for cooperation.
