2024 university preference results were announced as millions of candidates were eagerly awaiting. Istanbul Arel University Candidate Relations and Promotion Office Guidance Specialist Emre Çuhadar emphasized that it may be advantageous for students who are accepted to the department they do not want to enroll and transfer.
Evaluating the placement results, Çuhadar said, according to the announced results; He stated that placements were made in 987 thousand 388 of the total 1 million 21 thousand 986 quotas, including formal, open education and TRNC quotas. It was announced that 98.8% of formal programs in state universities and 91.14% of general quotas in foundation universities were filled. He stated that out of 2 million 755 thousand 301 candidates, whose placement score was calculated according to the 2024 YKS results, 1 million 670 thousand 205 candidates made their choice and a total of 987 thousand 388 candidates were admitted to the university.
Vacant Quotas in Engineering and Teaching Departments
It was noted that the demand for IT-related programs, which have attracted great attention in recent years, decreased slightly this year. It is quite striking that there are still vacant quotas even in popular programs such as “Computer Engineering”, “Software Engineering” and “Computer Programming”. In addition, there are significant vacant quotas in the departments of “Environmental Engineering”, “Civil Engineering”, “Mechanical Engineering” and “Primary Mathematics”, “Biology” and “Science Teaching”.
Opportunities for Students Who Cannot Place
Many questions arose after the university choice results were announced. Istanbul Arel University Candidate Relations and Promotion Office Guidance Specialist Emre Çuhadar stated that students who cannot be placed can benefit from additional preferences and that the vacant quota of approximately 34 thousand 500 people offers an important opportunity. Çuhadar said, “It is not the end of the road yet for candidates who made a choice but could not be placed or did not make a choice. There is a second chance in additional preferences for candidates who could not be placed after the registration process is completed.” he said
Çuhadar said, “The currently vacant 34,598 quotas and the quotas that will be released from candidates who have not registered will be included in additional preferences. However, the most important point to consider here is that you have not been placed in a program in the 2024 YKS placement results for additional choices. That is, if you have won a section and given up, “Unfortunately, you will not have a second chance at additional choices.”

Emre Çuhadar said, “If you have been placed in a program by ÖSYM today, my recommendation would be that you enroll in that department. When you prepare for the exam for another year and take the exam again next year, your school achievement score, which is given according to your high school diploma grade point average, will be cut in half. For this reason, you will not be eligible for the department you passed in.” “Even if they do not like it, I recommend that they complete the registration process and use their department change or horizontal transfer rights as of the second semester.” he said.
Registration Procedures and E-Government Usage
Registration of students who are accepted to the university will be carried out between 19-23 August this year. Online registration will be possible via e-government between 19-21 August. This year, a health report will be requested during registration in departments such as Civil Aviation Cabin Services, Civil Aviation Transportation Management, Aviation Management and Aircraft Technology.
