Mysterious Bubbles Detected Underwater in Lake Eğirdir

Eğirdir Gölü'nde Su Altında Gizemli Kabarcıklar Tespit Edildi

Lake Eğirdir, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Turkey, meets a significant portion of Isparta’s drinking water needs. In recent days, mysterious water bubbles have been detected rising from underwater to the surface in the lake. This interesting image, captured on mobile phone cameras by fishermen who set out to the lake to fish, has raised curiosity and concern in the local community. The public has applied to the authorities to investigate this situation.

EKO-BİR Director Süleyman Can and Eğirdir Fisheries Cooperative President Ayhan Köçükköse went to the area where these bubbles are located in the Kaynarca region and made detailed examinations. Measurements made with the GPS device on the EKO-BİR boat showed that the average depth of Lake Eğirdir offshore is 5-6 meters, while the depth of the lake in the area where the bubbles are located was recorded as 11 meters.

“More Likely to Be Gas”

Süleyman Can stated that these bubbles could be a source of water or a source of gas. “As you can see, there is a very intense outlet here. There is also the possibility of water, but the density of the bubbles is striking. I suggest that this situation be subject to a large-scale study. Our device that measures our bottom ground shows that there is concentration on a certain line. It seems more likely to be gas; but it would be beneficial to conduct more research on this subject. Support can be received from universities to have clear information about what the formations at the bottom. “It can be clearly determined whether it is water or gas. If there is a gas outlet, it can also be determined what type of gas it is,” he said.

Eğirdir Fisheries Cooperative President Ayhan Küçükköse stated that these images in the Kaynarca region have been known as a water source by fishermen for many years, and that they even obtain drinking water from here while fishing in the lake. Küçükköse said, “This region needs to be examined urgently and subjected to detailed research by scientists and authorities.”
