According to the statement made by Akkuyu Nuclear Inc., the concreting process of the foundation plate of the pump station in the third unit of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant was completed ahead of schedule. With the successful completion of this important stage, maximum standards in terms of reliability and durability were achieved.
The concreting process included 4 to 10 concreting stages for each of the foundation plates, which were divided into 8 different sections. It was stated that the foundation plate was made using a total of approximately 20 thousand cubic meters of concrete and 2 thousand tons of reinforced concrete steel.
Sergei Butckikh: “The Design Was Unique and Complex”
Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. General Manager Sergei Butckikh, in his statement on the subject, emphasized that the design of the foundation plate is unique and complex. Noting that each concreting stage requires separate engineering preparation, Butckikh made the following statements about the complex geometric structures contained in the plate:
- The body of the plate contains water intake parts for the four main pump units.
- Steel weighing 212.5 tons and a specially designed removable auxiliary mold structure were used.
- The weight of the suction pipe mold support system was determined as 30.5 tons.
Butckikh noted that concreting was carried out using high-strength concrete and all parts and elements were securely connected in cooperation with Russian and Turkish experts. It was also reported that a total of 350 Russian and Turkish experts participated in the work.
It has been reported that the pump station in the third unit will consist of two sections: underground and above ground.
