The fire, which started at noon in a scrubland in the Kirazlı Neighborhood of Şarköy, quickly grew due to the wind. Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality and Forest Management Directorate fire teams and helicopters were dispatched to the area upon notification. As a result of intervention from land and air, the fire was brought under control and extinguished.
The fire damaged 35 acres of olive groves and 600 acres of agricultural land. Kirazlı Neighborhood Headman Lütfü Akşar stated that the fire started in the area they used as pasture and that they thought it was caused by a spark from electric wires. Akşar stated that the flames were extinguished before they reached the vineyards and cherry orchards.
Work continues to determine the cause of the fire.
