The death toll in the stubble fire, which broke out in the area between Diyarbakır’s Çınar and Mardin’s Mazıdağı districts and spread to residential areas, increased to 15 with the death of 55-year-old Zekiye Erdenli.
Fire Losses and Damage
The fire, which broke out on the night of June 20 in the rural Köksalan District of Diyarbakır’s Çınar district, spread to the rural Yücebağ and Yetkinler neighborhoods of Mardin’s Mazıdağı district, under the influence of the wind. So far, Şehmus Demir, Mazhar Demir, Taliha Demir, Nuri Demir, Rezan Yılmaz, Azad Yılmaz, Resul Yılmaz, Remzi Yılmaz, Abdurrahman Buğdaycı, Ubeydullah Buğdaycı, İsmail Yardımcı, Sinan Deviren, Kerime Erdenli and Fadıl Demir have lost their lives in the fire. Additionally, 556 small cattle perished in the fire and 250 injured animals were sent to the Meat and Milk Institution for slaughter. A total of 5 thousand 450 decares of cultivated land was damaged.
While 73 people affected by the fire were discharged, unfortunately Zekiye Erdenli, one of the 3 people receiving treatment, could not be saved. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Münir Karaloğlu announced that 3 million TL was transferred to Diyarbakır Governorship and 2 million TL was transferred to Mardin Governorship to heal the wounds.
While the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry continue their work on the fire.
