Parrots Caught at Airport
On August 4, 2023, during detailed inspections carried out in the cargo section of the airport, a total of 309 parrots, 5 of which were dead, were detected in the hidden compartments of the parcels. When the documents belonging to the cargo were examined, it was seen that these parrots were subject to mandatory international circulation and trade. ‘CITES’It was understood that the documents were incomplete. For this reason, the parrots in question were confiscated.
As a result of the research, it was determined that there was a plan to send these parrots, which came to our country in transit from Congo, to Iraq and Thailand. The confiscated parrots were delivered to the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks and quarantined in a private zoo in Polonezköy. In this area, the parrots’ needs are met with a daily feeding program prepared by expert caretakers. The diet includes various nuts, fresh fruits and special feeds.
After the quarantine process, the parrots are planned to be sent to their new permanent living spaces. This process is of great importance for both the health of the animals and their protection.
