Employment Status of Retirees According to Social Security Institution Data
According to the March 2024 data of the Social Security Institution (SGK), there is a total of 16 million 154 thousand retirees and people receiving old-age pension throughout Turkey. 1 million 943 thousand 579 of these retirees continue to work by paying social security support premiums.
Reasons for Working of Retirees and Economic Situation
Kazım Ergün, Chairman of the Turkish Pensioners Association, stated in the statement that some of the retirees continue to work for economic reasons. It is emphasized that, according to SSI data, approximately 2 million retirees continue to work and this is generally due to economic necessity. Insufficient pensions increases the need to continue working.
“More Support Should Be Provided for Working Retirees”
Kazım Ergün states that this situation has no additional return for retirees who work with social security support premiums, and that additional opportunities should be provided to retirees who continue to work and are registered with SSI. Encouraging the registration of working retirees and ensuring that premium payments are returned to retirees will help retirees live a more economically secure life.
