Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed to the New York Times in a written statement that a request for additional protection and resources for Trump was turned down. Guglielmi said the Secret Service operates in a constant threat environment and that the resources it can send to events are limited.

Guglielmi also said that when the Secret Service cannot provide additional resources, they ask local law enforcement for support at events Trump attends. Officials said Trump has requested additional security from the Secret Service over the past two years, but those requests have not been met.
