Guglielmi said the Secret Service operates in a constant threat environment and that the resources it can send to events are limited.
Guglielmi also said that when the Secret Service cannot provide additional resources, they ask local law enforcement for support at events Trump attends. Officials said Trump has requested additional security from the Secret Service over the past two years, but those requests have not been met.
Secret Service Criticized After Assassination Attempt
The US Secret Service was heavily criticized after the assassination attempt on Trump. The US press questioned how a sniper was able to position himself 150 meters away from Trump, while the question of why US Secret Service snipers did not act in a timely manner became a topic of discussion. The Secret Service, which was criticized for security lapses after the assassination attempt, announced that it would support an independent investigation into the incident.
Attempted Assassination of Trump
Former US President Trump was attacked with a gun while addressing his supporters at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. One person was killed and two were injured in the attack. The US Secret Service announced that the attacker was neutralized. The FBI described the attack as an assassination attempt and announced that the person who attempted the assassination and was killed at the scene was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
