The US Department of Defense announced that the humanitarian aid operation to Gaza has ended via a temporary pier that the military calls “Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore” (JLOTS). The aid will now be transported to Gaza via US ships from Cyprus to the Israeli port of Ashdod and then transported by trucks to the Israeli border crossing in northern Gaza.
$230 Million Failure
The US media reported that the $230 million spent on the pier project had turned into a “fiasco” in terms of delivering aid to civilians in Gaza. The Pentagon stated that the pier had enabled more than 9,000 metric tons of aid to reach Gaza, and said, “According to our assessment, the temporary pier was effective in delivering a large amount of aid to Gaza and providing rapid assistance to civilians. However “Since the most effective and efficient means of delivering aid is by land, the naval support operation is now being conducted to the Israeli Port of Ashdod instead of the temporary pier in Gaza.”
