The National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council 119, representing over 1,000 asylum and humanitarian officers, has joined a court challenge against the Biden administration’s restrictions on asylum at the southern border. In a recent court filing, the union expressed concerns that the policy unlawfully limits migrants’ protections.
The union filed a brief in support of the American Civil Liberties Union’s lawsuit, which aims to block the policy in federal court in Washington. The group emphasized that President Biden’s order is not considered “humane” and stated that restricting lawful immigration pathways for some individuals should not come at the expense of others.
