The algae layer that emerged as a result of the decrease in oxygen levels at the bottom of the lake due to seasonal temperature changes has risen to the surface of the water, covering the lake in turquoise.
In his statement on the subject, İznik Mayor Mehmet Kağan emphasized that this natural event of the lake has a positive effect on tourism in the region, saying, “This unique beauty of İznik Lake makes a great contribution to the promotion of the region. Our visitors and citizens enjoy this view.”
