Turkey’s Second Astronaut Tuva Cihangir Atasever in Bursa

Turkey’s second astronaut, Tuva Cihangir Atasever, came to Bursa Uludağ for the 26th Sky Observation Event. Here, he made important evaluations about the event to the Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter.

Atasever emphasized that the event was a complete festival, and said that participants had the opportunity to visit the stands of various institutions’ science centers and participate in activities in these areas. Stating that sky observations were carried out during the event during the day and night, Atasever said that they contributed to making participants of all ages from different parts of Turkey love the sky. He stated that they provided the opportunity to observe planets, star clusters, galaxies and nebulas with telescope stations, especially in an environment where light pollution is at a minimum level.

Emphasizing that such events are extremely valuable in increasing the interest of young people, who will form the human resources for Turkey’s future in the field of space, Atasever said, “We have a responsibility towards the 15 thousand people who applied for the event. We are doing our part in terms of telling them about the missions we have carried out, giving them a perspective on what these missions will add to our country and their lives, and establishing a bond with them We wish to participate in sky observation events. “the coming years and meet with our young people at such festivals.”

Tuva Cihangir Atasever announced that he will also participate in Turkey’s aviation and space festival TEKNOFEST, which will be held in Adana between October 2-6 this year. He stated that TEKNOFEST events held in the past have made significant contributions to young people’s adoption of the National Technology Movement.

Atasever said, “Our aim is to create a generation in Turkey that develops, produces, thinks, analyzes and questions technology. My wish is for this interest to continue to increase in the coming years. By organizing TEKNOFESTs in different regions of our country, “we want to provide a technological perspective to the future plans of millions of young people.” He also stated that they will continue to meet with society and young people after completing their space missions in order to make them love space.

Atasever stated that the tasks assigned to them within the framework of the National Space Program were successfully completed and that the analysis processes of the scientific experiments they conducted were continuing. Stating that steps were being taken for new studies that could be added to these experiments in the future, Atasever said, “Turkey’s manned space missions are planned to continue, as our statesmen have also expressed. We aim to conduct experiments in microgravity until our new Manned space mission is realized.”

Atasever stated that ideas on how to benefit from the special environment provided by microgravity are gaining momentum, especially in academia and the private sector, and added:

  • Until the next manned space mission, we will focus on efforts to ensure that Turkey receives the maximum share from the economic ecosystem that will develop in space.
  • We will continue microgravity research without slowing down, learning new information and conducting more ambitious experiments.
  • I will continue to encourage our youth to become the astronauts and space engineers of the future.
  • I aim to provide significant gains for Turkey by taking part in projects regarding production activities in microgravity.
