There is a record increase in cherry harvest in Erzincan this year. While cherry trees, which yielded around 2.5 tons compared to last year, made producers happy, they also brought risks that need to be taken into consideration.
In the last 2 weeks, it has been reported that 6 people broke their arms and legs by falling from a cherry tree in Üzümlü district alone. Producers emphasize that this year has been outstanding both in terms of yield and accidents.
Among the issues to be considered during cherry harvest, the risk of breaking the branches of the trees due to cherry yield is at the forefront. This could endanger the safety of cherry harvesters. For this reason, the strength of the trees and the amount of load the branches can carry must be taken into consideration during harvesting.
It is stated that the number of people who fell from cherry trees and were hospitalized in Erzincan recently approached 15. In order to prevent such accidents, it is of great importance to be careful, use safety equipment and take the necessary precautions during harvest.
