Eylem Tok, the mother of 17-year-old Timur Cihantimur, who caused the death of Oğuz Murat Aci by driving without a license in Istanbul, appeared before the judge in the USA to be tried. At the hearing, which took place at the John Joseph Moakley Courthouse in Boston, Tok was brought to the court in his orange prison uniform.

Request from his lawyer to be tried without detention

At the hearing, Tok’s lawyer, Brendan Kelly, requested that the case be dropped and his client be tried without detention. After listening to the statements of the parties, the judge decided to continue Tok’s detention and ordered the next hearing to be held on June 27. Tok’s lawyer left the courthouse without answering questions after the hearing.

Reactions of Relatives of Pain, Who Lost His Life in the Accident, at the Hearing

Aci’s family attended the hearing and made statements to the press. Some family members opened banners saying “Justice for Oğuz Murat Aci”. Lütfiye Çiçek, cousin of Aci’s father Özer Aci, stated that they have confidence in US justice despite the postponement of the hearing.

Addressing Eylem Tok, Çiçek stated that “She also caused great harm to her own child” and said, “If she had handed over her child while she was in Turkey, she would not have these troubles now.” Questioning Tok’s claim to motherhood, Çiçek said, “Is this maternal justice?” she asked.

“How Does It Feel to Be the Mother of a Murderer?”

Esat Gök, founder of the Turks in Boston Association, asked Eylem Tok at the hearing, “How does it feel to be the mother of a murderer?” He stated that he asked and Tok only said “Allahu Akbar”. Gök said that Tok was anxious and nervous and the fear inside him was increasing.

It is requested that Cihantimur be extradited to Turkey for “negligent homicide and wounding” and Eylem Tok for “protecting the criminal”.
