In the Basic Proficiency Exam session of the Higher Education Institutions Exam held on June 8, a significant delay occurred due to a student having an epileptic seizure. According to the ÖSYM regulations, although an additional 15 seconds should be added to the remaining time of the exam, it turned out that the students were not satisfied with the 15-second addition. Upon the parents’ application, ÖSYM provided the students with the option of receiving additional points or taking the exam for an equivalent amount, thus resolving the grievance.
Statement from Parent: “There Was a Loss of 30 Minutes”
Sharing the details of the incident, parent Murat Akpınar explained the incident his daughter experienced during the exam. He stated that the hall chair and invigilators were unable to intervene sufficiently due to the problems experienced when a student had an epileptic seizure in the 40-person exam hall. Akpınar emphasized that despite the requirement for an additional time specified in the ÖSYM regulation, only a 15-second addition was made and this situation increased the victimization.

Akpınar, who stated that students and parents should seek their rights, stated that they contacted ÖSYM after the victimization and that the institution supported them. He also provided information about the results of their applications, which were found justified by the ÖSYM board of directors as a result of the legal process they initiated. Akpınar stated that the process they experienced could be an example and that the rights of children were protected with the solution options provided by ÖSYM, and thanked the institution.
