Debate Between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Elon Musk
The debate that began between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and X owner Elon Musk grew even bigger when the European Commission got involved. The Commission sent a letter to Musk, warning him about the control of content on the platform.
In a letter to Musk, the European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton reminds him of the far-right violence in the UK, stressing the requirements of European law and their legal responsibility to stop the “spread of harmful content”.
“We are monitoring potential risks in the European Union”
Breton wrote in his letter: “We are monitoring potential risks in the European Union related to the dissemination of content that could hurt violence, hatred and racism in connection with important political and social events, including election-related debates and interviews.” At this point, he warned that further measures could be taken against the X platform if deemed necessary.
What Happened?
Musk had targeted British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for the far-right violence in the UK. The American billionaire had made posts criticizing Britain’s immigration policies and used the phrase “Civil war is inevitable.” These statements had a huge impact both in the public and in the political arena.
