Meeting Between Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and His US Counterpart Antony Blinken
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the request for this meeting was conveyed by the US. The negotiation process between Israel and Hamas and the increasing tension in the region were discussed in the meeting between the two ministers.
Minister Fidan emphasized that the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, as well as Israel’s attacks on Palestine, had once again shown that the Israeli side was not truly willing to achieve peace.
‘More Pressure Should Be Put on Israel’
Minister Fidan stated that Hamas had previously displayed a constructive stance on the ceasefire issue and that more pressure should be put on Israel in order to achieve a permanent ceasefire. Fidan also stated that the increasing tension in the region was extremely worrying and stressed that Israel should avoid provocative steps that could cause further escalation of the conflict.
