Tel Aviv’s Security Concerns
Tel Aviv has been on alert for possible attacks from Iran and Hezbollah in the past two weeks in response to the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukur. “In recent days, Israel has sent messages to the United States and European countries that any direct attack from Iranian territory would result in Israel exercising its right to retaliate on Iranian territory,” the Israeli army radio reported.
In these reports, it was emphasized that the messages conveyed by Israel to its international partners were “regardless of the consequences of the attack, even if Israel suffers no casualties, Tel Aviv is determined to respond to Iran’s attacks and attack Iran.” Thus, it was stated that the purpose of these messages was to reduce the pressure expected from the international community in advance in order to prevent a possible attack against Iran.
“Israel is preparing for an Iranian attack on a much larger scale than the one last night when drones were used,” Israeli state television channel KAN reported yesterday, referring to Iran’s attacks in April with hundreds of drones and missiles.
As you may recall, Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on July 31. Iran and Hamas claimed that Israel was behind this attack, and the Tehran administration announced that it intended to respond to Tel Aviv.
