Taximeter Fees Increased in Istanbul

Following the decision taken at the UKOME meeting, taxi drivers flocked to designated stations to update their devices as a result of the increase in taximeter fees. With the increase, the taximeter opening fee increased by 22.19 percent to 30 lira, the distance fee to 20 lira per kilometer, the time tariff fee to 235 lira per hour and the hop-on/hop-off fee to 100 lira.

Drivers who went to taximeter adjustment stations updated their devices for the new tariffs that will come into effect on the night of July 28-29. Evren Keskin, who works at the station in Bağcılar, stated that taxi drivers lined up and updated their devices. He said that the operations at the station will continue until midnight on Monday.

Taxi driver Ogün Açıkalın stated that he completed the update process quickly and that the waiting time in line was shorter this year. Açıkalın said, “When evaluated according to economic conditions, taxis provide service at very reasonable prices. When managed correctly, profit can be made.”

Charged for Device Update

It was also reported that a fee of 3,950 liras was charged at the stations for the device update. Stating that the increase in taximeter fees remained low, Yasin Ertürk stated that taxi drivers still provide service with low fees when evaluated according to economic conditions.
