Tarhana, produced with yoghurt and thyme, one of Kahramanmaraş’s natural resources, is now exported to European countries in the form of chips. The city has risen to an important position in tarhana production thanks to technology and mechanization.

Employment Provides Thousands of People in the City

The tarhana sector, which employs 5 thousand people in Kahramanmaraş, is consumed in summer and winter with its soup and snack tarhana produced in healthy environments. The products attract great attention both in the domestic market and abroad.

Production of Different Types of Tarhana

Tarhana makers in the city offer a wide range of tarhana, which they produce as chips, table and freekeh. Among the products are varieties such as baked, spicy, creamy, clotted cream and with plenty of yoghurt.

Approximately 25 thousand tons of tarhana is produced annually in Kahramanmaraş. 15 thousand tons of this production is exported to the domestic market and 10 thousand tons to abroad. Tarhana is made with natural ingredients such as yogurt, wheat, thyme, salt and water.
