Apology from Suga of BTS for Alcohol-Related Incident

Apology from Suga of BTS for Alcohol-Related Incident

Suga, a prominent member of the globally renowned K-pop group BTS, issued a public apology on Wednesday for violating South Korea’s traffic regulations by operating an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol. This incident has raised concerns regarding traffic safety and personal responsibility.

The artist, born Min Yoon-gi, acknowledged in a statement that he had his driver’s license revoked as a result of this action and was subsequently fined for riding the scooter home while intoxicated on Tuesday night.

According to the police officer in charge of traffic in Yongsan, a district in Seoul where Suga resides, the artist was discovered alone on the ground. Following this, he was subjected to a breath test at a nearby police station. The results indicated that his blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit for driving, which is set at 0.08 percent.

Suga expressed regret over the incident, stating that he was unaware that riding an electric scooter while intoxicated constituted a violation of traffic laws. He explained that he had fallen while attempting to park the scooter near the entrance of his residence when a police officer found him and administered the breath test.

“There were no injuries to people or damages to property during this incident,” Suga remarked. “However, I sincerely bow my head in apology to everyone affected.”

In a statement released on Wednesday, Big Hit Music, the record label representing BTS, disclosed that Suga had traveled approximately 500 meters (around a third of a mile) on the electric scooter while under the influence. Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, and he was escorted home safely by the police.

The label also expressed regret for Suga’s “inappropriate behavior” and confirmed that he would face disciplinary action as a consequence of his actions.

It is worth noting that Suga, like his fellow band members, is currently serving in the South Korean military. However, unlike the others who have enlisted in active duty, Suga is fulfilling an alternative form of service as a social service agent. He is expected to complete his military obligations by June.
