PARIS — Simone Biles is not only prepared to take on the Olympics but also set to make a lasting impact in the world of gymnastics. Biles recently introduced a new element on the uneven bars for consideration by the International Gymnastics Federation. If successfully executed during competition, this move will mark the sixth signature Biles move, solidifying her status as the most decorated gymnast in history. This achievement will also grant Biles a named move on all four apparatus, a rare feat in the sport.
Among gymnasts, only Russia’s Svetlana Khorkina has had a move named after her on floor, balance beam, uneven bars, and vault. However, Khorkina’s move on the floor is not recognized under the current scoring system as it predates the introduction of the new code of points.
Biles’ new element comprises a Weiler-kip, which involves a rotation around the bar to a handstand, followed by a 540-degree (one-and-a-half) turn, showcasing her exceptional skill and innovation in gymnastics.
