Recent reports indicate that Russian forces have made significant progress in the eastern Donetsk region, capturing several villages and approaching the city of Pokrovsk, a key Ukrainian defensive stronghold in the area.
According to open-source maps based on combat footage and satellite imagery, Russian troops are now only about twelve miles away from Pokrovsk. Their rapid advancement along a railway line has seen them cover approximately three miles towards the city.
Military analysts attribute this swift progress to Moscow’s improved tactics in exploiting weaknesses in Ukrainian defensive lines. The Ukrainian forces have been facing challenges such as manpower shortages and continuous Russian assaults along a front spanning over 600 miles.
Experts suggest that Russian forces have been focusing on identifying vulnerable and disorganized Ukrainian units before launching concentrated attacks with troops and armored vehicles to break through the lines.
Mykola Bielieskov, a military analyst at Ukraine’s National Institute for Strategic Studies, explains that the Russians assess the strength of battalions by probing the lines and then target weakened units, pressing on regardless of their own losses.
