Roadworks and Traffic Congestion in Istanbul

İstanbul'da Yol Çalışmaları ve Trafik Sıkışıklığı

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) started various works for the renewal of the pedestrian overpass at Yenibosna Metrobus Station on June 28. In this context, one lane in each direction was closed on the D-100 highway due to the construction of the new overpass. This situation negatively affected the traffic flow in the region.

At the same time, road construction works continue between Küçükçekmece and Avcılar as part of the ‘White Road’ project carried out on the Metrobus route. Due to these works, a lane needs to be narrowed for the passage of metrobuses, making journeys difficult.

As a result of the combination of both works, long vehicle queues have formed between Avcılar and Yenibosna due to the narrowed lanes. In addition, TEİAŞ teams started an emergency work due to a fault in the underground cables on the side road in the Küçükçekmece Lake area in the Yenibosna direction, which led to the closure of one lane to traffic.

These three separate road works, which started at close distances on the D-100 highway, caused traffic to come to a standstill from time to time during the day. Drivers had to wait in traffic for a long time to pass these distances. It was learned that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality teams suspended the ‘White Road’ work for a while due to the heavy traffic.

Such works are carried out to reduce traffic congestion in the city and strengthen the transportation infrastructure, but they also cause temporary problems. Drivers and passengers should plan their routes with this in mind.
