His publisher, Universal Edition, confirmed his death at a hospice near Karlsruhe, where he resided. One of his notable works, “Reminiszenz,” a captivating orchestral song cycle for tenor and large orchestra, premiered during the inauguration of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg in 2017, leaving a lasting impression on audiences.

Throughout his illustrious career, Rihm composed an impressive repertoire of over 500 works, showcasing his unparalleled creativity and mastery. His accolades include the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 2003, the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2010, and the Robert Schumann Prize for Poetry and Music in 2014, solidifying his legacy in the world of classical music.
