A lobster, which is extremely rare in the world and has a blue color due to a genetic mutation that causes excessive production of a certain protein, was caught by a professional diver and aquaculture engineer in Ayvalık, a charming district of Balıkesir. Kartal, who saved this blue lobster that was caught in a ghost net that he noticed on the seabed during his dive in Ayvalık Islands Nature Park, also managed to record this rare creature.
Nedim Kartal, in his statement, stated that Ayvalık has a variety of underwater life, and said, “When we come across different and rare images in our studies in this area, we have made it a principle to share them with the public.” Kartal provided the following information about the last sea creature he photographed: “A very rare species of blue lobster that has undergone a color mutation, which is seen in 1 in 2 million individuals according to some sources and 1 in 200 million individuals according to others .”
Kartal emphasized that this important record is a detail that reveals the underwater richness of Ayvalık. Stating that the blue lobster is no different from other species, Kartal continued his words as follows:
- Pork Fish:While it is frequently seen in the Mediterranean and Bodrum regions, it is rare in Ayvalık and its surroundings.
- Parrotfish:They have just started coming to these regions.
- Invasive Species:Species such as lionfish and pufferfish have not yet been seen in Ayvalık waters.
“In short, the waters of Ayvalık do not seem to have been affected much by global warming. Therefore, I do not think that the appearance of the blue lobster in these waters is related to global warming,” he said.
