In the circular signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it was emphasized that the Srebrenica genocide, which took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 11, 1995 and in which more than 8 thousand people lost their lives, was a dark stain in human history. It was stated that this event was described as the biggest genocide in Europe after World War II.
It was reminded in the circular that July 11 was accepted as the “International Day of Reflection and Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide” by the decision of the United Nations General Assembly dated May 23, 2024, and that those responsible for this painful event were punished by international courts and that measures should be taken to prevent similar tragedies from occurring.
The circular contains the following statements: “Within this framework, in order to keep the memory of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica alive and to raise awareness to prevent this painful event from happening again, July 11th will be commemorated in our country as the ‘International Day of Reflection and Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide’. The events will be held with the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the relevant institutions. All public institutions and organizations will contribute to the best possible outcome of this important day by providing the necessary support for the events to be organized.”
