President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited the Martyrs’ Tomb on the July 15 Martyrs’ Bridge. Erdoğan laid flowers at the July 15 Martyrs’ Monument during the visit and read the Quran for the martyrs.
Highlights from President Erdoğan’s statements:
“I would like to thank everyone who rushed to the streets without heeding our call from the first moments of the coup attempt. The putschist scoundrels continued to shed blood on the bridge where the uprising began until the morning. They martyred 34 of our country’s children , including 2 police officers. We have not forgotten, and will not forget, any of those scenes that are engraved in our memories.
We remember with great pride the epic struggle our nation waged with its bare hands against tanks and death-spewing weapons. Just as this nation has already thwarted every game that attempted to shackle its independence and will continue to thwart it, it will continue to do so.
Until the Day of Judgment, we will not forgive those who call July 15 a “game”, a “theater”, or shamelessly call it a “fixed fight”. Those who make these ugly slanders are extras in the dirty game played on Turkey. May God never let us experience such heinous attempts again.
“I pray to God to have mercy on all our heroes who were martyred while defending our homeland, flag and future on July 15.”
